Statue

Photo of Statue with quote

Quote: I would much rather have men ask why I have no statue, than why I have one.

Yet another statue!!! I can see you folks grumbling down there but isn't (wasn't) India a land of statues, saints and snake charmers?

I have always wondered whether the statues have any significance except for acting as a circular median in a junction. Eventhough it may not have significance to those who pass by it everyday, for visitors/tourist its a great way showcasing our history - atleast pointers to them.

If only we took better care for our statues/monuments. Though please dont judge based on this photograph. This was shot while trying to utilise the few seconds which I was stuck in the middle of a road in Hyderabad (where else). I seem to have a great ability to devalue whatever I see through my cam. My colleague for whom I shot some "proposal" portraits, might readily attest this :-).

Damm right ,statues are a part of our heritage, and we must maintain them not only for the foreign tourists but future generation also. We have had leaders who given their life for us, the least we can do is remember them.

You are right. However I think new statues arent being installed (atleast in TN I think) bcoz they lead to some difference. (even caste is brought into it)

Would love to see write ups from you. Why dont u email me the same, I can post them here.

Lakshmi,
Arent u referring to the one in Guindy? My college's admin office was located there.

Ashish,
LoL. Lets look at it positively, as per superstition that is supposed to be lucky - though I prefer to be lucky when I am still alive.

Neel,
Usually portraits are reserved for.... you know whom. However I am making an exception for you. Yeah we can catch up - eitehr today after the boss leaves or may be tomorrow during lunch......

Great caption.

Anubhav, unfortunately I think we have far too many statues especially in TN. Nothing to do with heritage but everything to do with politics though.

Are you referring to this statue and questioning why this person has a statue for himself? ;-)

Some people are so full of themselves that they unviel statues of themselves (Mayawati did that recently)!!!

Uma,
I second you. However it depends on where it is located. For eg if its situated along the chennai beach, I guess its ok. Its when they take up lot of space in the road or create disharmony among some group that we need to avod it.

Eroteme,
I was working (yeah even we guys do) when I saw your comment via email notification. I had planned to reply to all the comments at the EoD. But your comment forced me to rush in :-)

Let me declare herein, that I have no affiliation or support to any political party. Even though you are joking, I dont want to risk any trouble (I already have my hands full down here related to my blog)

I always thought that statues were unvieled only after the demise of that person...

I passed out in 2002. I am your senior, so you better watch out. I didnt rag much during my college days, so I am more than willing to compensate for it now ;-)

Lets not discuss about how ineffective our Alumini cell is. Its nice to see blogging bringing together passed out students :-) BTW which batch are you in?
