Makar Sankranti

Makar Sankranti

Photographer: Dheepak Ra

This is the time for thanking God for previous harvest and praying for another good year of farming. Eventhough the essence is the same, it is celebrated in different parts of India under a different name. In Tamilnadu it is Pongal, in Punjab it is Lohri and rest of India it is Makar Sankranti.

This snap was shot in my office right in front of Amphitheatre where they staged a wonderful program to celebrate the same.

Madelyn, There is a lot more which adds color to these festival. But this was the only one which I had time to capture and even that was only in passing (as u must have realized it by looking at the poor composition)

Revathi, May be you can learn from me as to how to create Kolams. I am pretty good at it. Though it is not traditional pulli kolam, but rather more abstract type.

Thanks GP

Well localhost, u can mirror ur home down here. Why dont you try some kolam in US. I am sure a lot of people will appreciate it. Kolams which I try can never compete with that of my mother but still it can stand its own down here where very few does it well.
